The Laurie Lee walk – good and bad bits!

My husband, Angus, sister-in-law, Kate, brother-in-law, Jim, all felt very blessed at the end of May to go on a guided walk around Laurie Lee’s Slad Valley with special audio recordings by the writer himself, on a beautiful summer’s day.

Our walking group began our tour at the Woolpack, the pub frequented by the author and poet, Laurie Lee. We went on to discover both the first home of Laurie and the Grannies and later Rosie’s cottage.

That is until I fell over and this happened …

Now having done a very thorough job, I am awaiting an operation to have the wrist pinned and plated! So frustrating as the accident happened near the start of the walk. However, I was determined for everyone’s sake to finish the walk. So glad I did.

We learnt so much about Laurie Lee from the wonderful, David Parker, a man who had not only met Laurie Lee but interviewed him too! It is such a privilege living in such a beautiful part of the country. A few more of the spectacular views are shared below.

I thoroughly recommend you reading or re-reading some of Laurie’s books, most notably ‘Cider with Rosie’ about this scenic but steep area of the world.
