At times, it’s such a privilege living in Cheltenham where some of the biggest names in literature and entertainment come to us. Perhaps over the years it has been more the celebrities of stage and screen rather than writers, although we still have some opportunities to learn the craft from the greats.
This year, so far, I have been delighted by Joanna Page of Gavin and Stacey and Love Actually fame among many other roles.

She was full of energy and made us all laugh. Apparently, her family – a typical Swansea family who unite with a family from Essex – are really like the one protrayed in Gavin and Stacey. Her mum even makes omelettes all the time like Gwen!
‘Agatha Christie, Queen of Crime’, was a discussion led by David Suchet, following his recent travels in her footsteps, along with, Ann Cleeves, of Vera, the detective woman fame and Rachel Trewethey, Agatha’s biographer; all aptly led by novelist, Mike Gayle.

David Suchet seemed appreciative of the fact that I had enjoyed listening to him reading the Bible on CD in the New International Version. It is well worth tuning into it, his reading voice is very clear and engaging.
After these two treats I am still excitedly looking forward to seeing the artist and writer, Charlie Mackesey, for the second time. Last time – I think it was a couple of years ago – he was less well known and I had a great view. With his new book ‘Always Remember’ many more people are aware of him and the crowds will be greater. I do hope to grab an interview with him too, but that maybe wishful thinking. I will just have to wait and see….
