Brixham, Devon

Brixham on the South Devon coast is a pictureque harbour town with many beautiful coloured houses.

Being a harbour town we enjoyed lots of lovely sea food.

My favourite Plaice grilled to perfection and the special treat of breaded Monkfish.

But that’s not all Brixham has to offer. It has beautiful National Trust properties to vist such as the Art Deco/ Jazz House of the D’Oyle Carte family, owners in the 1920’s and 1930’s of the Savoy Hotel, Claridges and the D’Oyle Carte Opera group.

More well known is the place where author, Agatha Christie, spent her latter years, Greenway.

Both places a delight to visit.

The steam train experience from Brixham to Kingswear where you get a paddle steamer on to Dartmouth is a must. We were especially blessed to be passengers on one of the only coal fired paddle steamer still in operation, a real joy to my engineering husband.

Our stay in a seaside town wouldn’t be complete without a dip in the sea. We travelled to Goodrington Sands in Paignton to find a lovely sandy beach. The water was very invigorating but we had to take it in turns to swim as dogs aren’t allowed on the beach during the summer months.

A refreshing break for us both after various health issues. Our dog, Bella seemed to enjoy the experience too.
