August nightmare

The first of August 2026 is a day that I will ever forget. My husband was blue lighted to hospital and had to stay in for a week. Without going into detail we are grateful for the prayers and help of so many people along with the expertise of the doctors. He has made a rapid recovery and is on the way back to his normal self. The difference was incredible. Praise God!

Each day is a mystery. You never know what is going to happen next. One thing this experience has taught me is about the wonderful love, support and help from neighbours, friends and the church, something I’ll be forever grateful for. Those who stand beside you at times of great need.

This wasn’t how I expected August to begin. I was looking forward to a writing retreat and getting my writing ‘mojo’ back, but sadly, this wasn’t to be. Maybe I’ll get another chance next year.

At the moment I’m not doing a lot of writing except journalling and the odd few lines of poetry but perhaps that’s okay for now. Times and seasons.. I think the following passage in the Bible from Ecclesiates captures what I am trying to say in a few short words of poetry.

"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

Ecclesiates 3 v 2-8

There’s not much more to say this month, except roll on September.

That sounds horrendous! Glad he’s recovering well. Hope you’re both doing better. It would be lovely to catch up sometime soon! Maressa

  2. Thanks for your kind thoughts, Maressa. I don’t think I’ll make the September meeting in Stroud but hope to be back with the group very soon xx
